Infra Graveyard Weekly #02: LayerZero cuts 20 chains, and on Taiko 30,836 holders share $12,376

LayerZero ends offchain support for 20 chains and Stargate exits five. Polygon's public RPCs are already gone, and Porto's funds deadline has passed.

Deprecations and shutdowns in crypto infrastructure, the part a developer has to act on. "Days left" counts from 9 August 2026, and all times are UTC.

2. New this week

LayerZero winds down 20 chains, Stargate exits five of them [quiet]

What changed. LayerZero is ending offchain services — the DVN and Executor that actually move messages — on twenty chains, in four dated batches. Stargate v2 drops five of those chains entirely.

Who is affected. Anyone holding Hydra OFT balances (USDC.e, wETH, USDT) or providing liquidity in Stargate pools on the listed chains, and any application whose messaging path crosses them.

Deadline. Botanix passed on 2026-07-30. Moonriver, Moonbeam, Nexera and Canto on 2026-07-31. Then 2026-08-28 and 2026-09-30 for the batches above. No times, no timezone, and the announcement says the list and the dates are subject to change.

Action. Redeem or bridge before your chain's date. In LayerZero's own words: "Failure to act before chain support is fully deprecated will result in losing access to your funds."

Primary source: the LayerZero support update, posted 2026-07-24.

A note for anyone verifying this. The chain and date tables on that page are PNG images. A text fetch of it returns the fund-loss warning and not a single date; we read the images directly. That failure mode is new to us and now sits in our source list.

Polygon's public RPC endpoints are already gone [quiet]

What changed. polygon-rpc.com, rpc-mainnet.polygon.technology and rpc-amoy.polygon.technology are retired. Verbatim: "17th July for Testnet Amoy and 31st July for Mainnet."

Who is affected. Anything still pointing at those hostnames — which means it is already broken rather than about to break.

Action. Move to a provider from Polygon's own list at docs.polygon.technology/pos/reference/rpc-endpoints.

Primary source: the Polygon forum announcement of 2026-07-14. This is a separate cut from the Erigon namespace sunset in issue #01.

3. Quiet changes

Polygon: Bor and Heimdall images leave DockerHub [quiet]

After 2026-09-01, new releases publish only to GHCR — ghcr.io/0xpolygon/bor and ghcr.io/0xpolygon/heimdall-v2. Both registries keep working until then, which is the trap: a pull that succeeds today will simply stop finding new tags later. Change the image reference in your node deployment now. Primary source: the announcement of 2026-07-16.

FLP.1/SOL and FLP.1/USD on Arbitrum. The changelog entry is dated 2026-07-26 and states a deprecation date of 2026-07-24 — two days before the entry itself. We quote both rather than quietly pick one. Primary source: the Chainlink changelog, entry type Deprecation.

Porto is sunsetting, and its funds deadline has passed [quiet]

Ithaca is shutting Porto down. Verbatim: "Porto is sunsetting. Please move any funds out before July 24, 2026." The repository (ithacaxyz/porto, 617 stars) was archived on 2026-08-03; the code stays open source and development continues at tempoxyz/accounts. The announcement never says what happens to funds left behind after that date, and we are not going to guess on its behalf. Primary source: the sunset notice, 2026-06-19.

Jumper Exchange's frontend goes closed-source [quiet]

jumperexchange/jumper-exchange (271 stars) was archived on 2026-07-23. Development moved to a private repository; the public one is frozen "for reference purposes only", and issues and pull requests are no longer monitored. jumper.xyz stays live, so nothing breaks for users. This is a supply-chain item for anyone who forked the repo or watched it for fixes.

4. Deep dive: who the LayerZero warning is actually for

The fund-loss warning is real, and for almost everyone it covers pocket change. We measured what is at stake on 2026-08-07 — the totalSupply of each Hydra OFT and the token balance held by each pool.

ChainDeadlineAt riskHolders
Aurora2026-09-30$382,365 in the S*USDC poolLP funds
Taiko2026-09-30$209,263 USDC.e plus $886 Hydra USDT30,886
LightLink2026-09-30$21,153 USDC.e, $2,773 USDT, 40.80 ETH215
Botanix2026-07-30, passed$11,929 USDC.e plus 0.17 WETH

Taiko is the whole story in one line. Of the $209,263 in USDC.e there, 50 addresses hold 94.1%. The remaining 30,836 holders share $12,376 between them, which is about forty cents each.

So the warning splits its audience in two, and not along the line the announcement implies. Thirty thousand people are being told to take a bridging action that costs more in gas and attention than their balance is worth. The concentrated money, meanwhile, sits with liquidity providers and a few dozen addresses — precisely the people who already read changelogs and will act without being told.

That pattern is worth naming because it repeats across every sunset we cover. A broadcast deadline treats a dust holder and an LP as the same reader, and they are not. If you are winding a protocol down, the useful thing is not a louder announcement but a per-address view that tells someone whether their number is worth a transaction. If you are on the receiving end, the same arithmetic runs in reverse: check the balance before you spend an afternoon rescuing it.

One gap we could not close. EDU Chain's RPC does not resolve. rpc.edu-chain.raas.gelato.cloud, the endpoint LayerZero's own metadata publishes for that chain, returns NXDOMAIN, and educhain.blockscout.com serves an SPA shell to API paths. The USDC.e contract there is 0x12a272a581fee5577a5dfa371afeb4b2f3a8c2f8, and its balance is unknown to us. EDU Chain loses LayerZero support on 2026-08-28.

5. Watch

  • Dune retires the Sim API (sim.dune.com, reportedly 2026-08-01). The announcement page returns 404 to our tooling, and the only readable accounts are competitor migration guides, which we do not accept as a citation. Unconfirmed until the primary page is readable.
  • Solana Name Service SDK monorepo archived (SolanaNameService/sns-sdk-archive, 75 stars, renamed and archived between 2026-07-21 and 08-03). Successor repository and npm package not yet confirmed.
  • DeFi Kingdoms developer docs still carry no sunset notice, 19 days before the chain retires. That is the third issue running in which we have checked.
  • Ethereum Foundation blog: dry two issues in a row on testnet lifecycle.
