Infra Graveyard Weekly #08: Solana has run 250 ms slots for two weeks; its upgrade page says 'to be determined'

Deprecations and shutdowns in crypto infrastructure, the part a developer has to act on. "Days left" counts from 29 September 2026, and all times are UTC.

1. Which deadlines are closest?

The full board — 39 open deadlines out to September 2028 — lives on the series page.

Closed since #07, each checked at the source. OP Stack Upgrade 20 went live for OP, Ink, Unichain and Soneium in one L1 block, 26,048,619, at 16:51:23 on 24.09; batchInbox() now reverts, and the docs notice still shows "target dates". BitMEX stopped trading at 04:00 on 23.09; its API lists no open instrument, and withdrawals are now web-only — support says "API withdrawals are disabled". On 18.09, 482 FIPS 140-2 certificates were still active; on 29.09, none.

2. What breaks now that Solana's slots are shorter and the page hasn't noticed?

The 250 ms step went live on 16 September at 15:03:24, at slot 447,552,000. We read the feature account on mainnet and measured 261–273 ms per slot on 29.09. Solana's own changelog of 18.09 lists it. The upgrade page, "Updated September 2026", still gives 300 ms as current and 250 ms as "to be determined". Primary source

Anything that turns slots into seconds with a constant is now wrong — including the page's own numbers. A blockhash still expires after 150 blocks; Solana puts that at about 80 seconds at 400 ms and 60 at 300 ms, and on the same scale the rate we measured gives about 54. That leaves less room for offline signing or confirming on a hardware wallet. An epoch takes about 32 hours, not the 36 the page gives for 300 ms, and indexers get about 11% more blocks a day than that figure implies.

A deadline written in slots moves with them. SNS will pause .sol resolution in its official SDKs at slot 452,825,395; its blog says "mid to late October". On 29.09 at 13:03 the chain was at slot 451,649,776, going at 0.2675 s per slot — which puts the pause around 3 October, 04:25 — or later that day, around 20:30, if slots slow back to their early-September pace. 3. What changed this week?

Balancer is voting to wind itself down. BIP-928 covers every pausable v2 and v3 pool. Partners can ask by 16.10 to keep a v3 pool alive; on 30.10 pools go withdrawals-only and the bug bounty ends; the v3 Vault pauses on 30.11. The vote closes today at 18:00; at 12:40 it stood at 16.8m BAL for, 0.14m against, quorum met. Proposal

CoinEx is closing, and its chain goes first. Withdrawals from the exchange run until 22.12 at 02:00; after that, USDT goes into custody at 5% a month. But CoinEx Smart Chain, OneSwap and the bridge redemption window end today, with no time of day given. The public CSC RPC returned 504 at 12:51. Primary source

Zcash NU7: testnet on 6 October, mainnet on 5 November, heights to be set on 5.10 and 20.10. After activation, v4 transactions are invalid, so funds still in Sprout become unspendable. Zebra 6.4.0 and 6.4.1 were pulled; run 6.4.2. ZIP 259

Glamsterdam hits Sepolia on 6 October at 13:53:36 — six days after Sepolia was supposed to end. EF's 2025 plan gave Sepolia an end of life on 30.09.2026 and a replacement in March 2026. The replacement never shipped; a proposal on Ethereum Magicians, not a decision, would move the sunset to mid-2027. Third-party guides still say "retires 30 September". Primary source

4. What changed quietly?

The clients Glamsterdam requires break on their own. Nethermind 2.0.0 refuses to start with several old config keys; Erigon 3.7.0 needs an x86-64-v2 CPU and rejects two removed flags; Prysm 7.2.0 defaults to a 60M gas limit after the fork. Nethermind

Chainlink added a fourth way to miss its date. USD0++/USD died on 21.09, five days late, and the directory still calls it "deprecating"; plUSD/USDT on 25.09, nine days late — and it had not updated since 25 August, a month past its 24-hour heartbeat. It then vanished from the directory without a mark. Of the ten feeds due tomorrow, BTCY NAV already stopped on 10.09. Changelog

Coinbase deprecated OnchainKit on 22.09 and archived the repo: no more fixes, security ones included. The final 1.1.3 carries no npm deprecation flag, and it was downloaded 22,064 times in the week it was archived. Hiero Local Node, Hedera's local development network, has about 100,000 weekly downloads, a README saying "archived September 2026", and no flag either. OnchainKit

LayerZero edited its July page again on 25.09. BounceBit moved from 30.09 to 28 August — backwards. New: Stargate leaves Gravity, Camp, GOAT and Metis on 23.10; offchain services end there and on Lisk on 30.10. Primary source

Smaller ones. Moralis dropped Lisk — a live chain — with Moonbeam and Moonriver on 25.09. Chainlink node v2.66.0 will not start on PostgreSQL below 15. Gelato's old ERC-2771 forwarder is being deprecated with no replacement: if it is your contract's immutable trustedForwarder, plan for meta-transactions through it to stop.

5. What we are watching

• ZetaChain → Solana: proposal 68 passed on 20.09; the halt, snapshot and withdrawal window wait for "Proposal 2", which has no date. ZETA drops from 18 to 9 decimals, rounding down.
• Solana sBPF v3, expected with Agave 4.4 in November: programs built for sBPF v0–v2 can no longer be deployed or upgraded.

6. What does this actually mean?

A date in slots is not a date. When the slot gets shorter, every deadline written as a slot number arrives earlier than the calendar on the announcement says. Recompute it from the chain.

Pages and chains disagree in both directions. Solana's page says TBD for something live; Optimism's shows a target for something done; Chainlink's directory calls dead feeds "deprecating"; and EF's plan still dates Sepolia's end to tomorrow, which will not happen. The status on a page is a claim; the state on the chain is a fact.

The npm registry is the last to know. OnchainKit and Hiero Local Node are dead by their own READMEs; npm install says nothing.

7. What to do, step by step

1. Today: redeem anything bridged on CoinEx Smart Chain.
2. Before 30.09 18:00: Base operators on v1.4.2; move off the Chainlink feeds due tomorrow.
3. Before 3 October: upgrade SNS SDKs; don't rely on .sol resolution in payment flows.
4. Now: remove any 400 ms or 300 ms constant from Solana code; recheck blockhash margins; pin or replace OnchainKit.
5. Before 6 October, 13:53: read your client's breaking changes, then upgrade Sepolia nodes.
6. Before 30 October: drop Balancer pools from routes if BIP-928 passes.

8. What we ship
